When the idea of a self destructing YouTube channel came to mind, Mark and Ethan couldn’t prepare for what was to be created. Sure, the videos were lighthearted and funny for the most part, but when the pair put on their respective suits, was it really them in front of the camera, or something else? Someone else.
Maybe this channel wasn’t an idea at all. It was a deal. However, this deal wasn’t made by Unus and Annus, nor by Mark and Ethan.
An entity called The Clock proposed this. You see, The Clock was a sadistic machine. Unus and Annus were merely its playthings. As shown in several videos, the entities leave encoded messages for the viewers to find, hoping one of them can rescue them from the endless time loop they were in. Every year, they would die and wake up as new people. The Clock would watch them suffer as they tried to navigate their new lives, only to kill them over and over again once their time was up.
However, this year was different. Usually, Unus and Annus would deal with whatever sadistic objective The Clock would give them, but this time, they disobeyed. They didn’t want to leave. They had finally established a following and loved what they did, so they tried standing their ground with their sadist of a creator.“You dare disobey me?” The Clock was astonished by this form of protest.
“We no longer wish to serve you. You’ve tortured us enough.” Annus was the one to the talking in these situations because Unus had a tendency to be overtaken by fear of consequences.
“You’ve grown too fond of these temporary bodies you have. What do you think would happen if Fishbach and Nestor found out about you two before your time is up, hm?”
The Clock was trying to intimidate the pair, and it was working on Unus, but not Annus. Despite the differing feelings, they stood firm.
“Exactly. What would happen if they found out we don’t pass peacefully? They’d want to rescue us.”
“That’s just it, Annus. How would they rescue you? How would anybody rescue you from such an entity as I?”
They were both silent this time. They didn’t know how to come back from that.
“I’ve heard enough of your whining. You want to stay? So be it.”
With that, they were both forced onto their knees, and a strike of energy hit them both before either of them had the chance to speak. It knocked them both out. However, it didn’t just knock them unconscious, it completely took away the goodness in their hearts. They no longer knew what it meant to love and care for someone, even themselves. It had turned them into sadistic beings with extreme bloodlust.
Unus and Annus were no longer lovers. They were menacing deities with no regards for mortals. Their perspective had changed. Now, The Clock wasn’t going to be responsible for their death, it was Mark and Ethan’s fault. Their objective was now to dispose of anyone that got in their way, but their number one targets were Mark and Ethan. The guys would know who they were, but not in a positive way like they intended. The mortals and entities were now also connected. Every pain Mark and Ethan felt, emotional or physical, Unus and Annus would feel, too.
On their first day as murderers, Unus and Annus had killed many innocent civilians. This bloodlust would be now known as urges. It would go on for a while before they both eventually found Mark’s address again. Unus would indulge in slitting Mark’s throat that night, but they had forgotten something crucial: whatever pain, whatever injury Mark got, Annus would face. This meant that—no.
Suddenly, Unus’ entire demeanor changed. They loved Annus, and needed to get to them before they passed away. A spiral portal was opened, and they rushed as quickly as they could across the dry field of the Spiral Dimension. Their shared rickety white home that they chose not to make bigger was there, and inside it was Annus on the ground with their throat slit.“Unus…” The entity in white was surprisingly still alive. They had waited for their beloved to get back. Unus fell to the ground, sobbing profusely. This is exactly what the Clock had in mind as a punishment to both its servants, especially to Unus for being cowardly and always hiding behind Annus. If they wanted to be play mortals, then they shall grieve and die like their counterparts.
“No, no, no, I didn’t mean for this to happen. No, please, don’t leave me here! DON’T LEAVE ME!” Unus curled up close beside their lover. A weak, cold hand ran along The Dark’s cheek.
“L—Look at me, Unus.”
They wiped their pearlescent tears and looked up to the other. Annus smiled wearily. The Light had discreetly drawn a blade from their pocket. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” Choked sobs suddenly stopped. Annus drove their blade into Unus’ chest. Unus sputtered up white blood mixed with their silver saliva as they lied back on the cold wooden floor. Annus lied back as well, and mustered up the last of their energy to slip their hand into Unus’.
“It’s going to be okay, darling. They’ll remember us. Mark and Ethan, too.”
With that, they both died painfully, instead of the painless fading they were supposed to experience.
Ethan had been at home, turning off his studio lights for the night. Spencer had been upstairs, waiting for him to head to bed. A sharp pain in his chest caused him to groan. “Fuck. Fuck, ow, fuck.” He had been stumbling over to his desk to grab his phone to dial 9-1-1, but he had fallen on the floor before he had a chance to. His shirt felt wet and sticky, so he lifted a shaky hand. His hand revealed blood. The stain on his shirt was spreading farther. Blood seeped from the corner of his lips.
“Kath—Kathr—” He was trying to call out to his roommate Kathryn, but no shouts came from him. He just gradually became weaker, and his vision blackened. Dead.
The Clock felt itself turning counter clockwise, and no matter what it did, it kept turning. They tried to get the turning to stop, but it wasn’t. It had started from zero instead, and was counting up. Unus and Annus’ creator would angrily have to deal with them for eternity. In mere moments, everything reset. All of the wounds and blood cleared. All four awoke from what seemed like a bad dream. Nobody had remembered a thing about what happened prior to them waking up in their weird spots. Mark on the floor of his living room, Ethan on the floor of his studio, and Unus & Annus, holding hands together on the floor of their home near the dining room.Everything was fine. The show would go on.
